The proposed installation consists in connecting to a station of the Ocean Network Canada underwater observatory NEPTUNE, located in an abyssal plain hundreds of kilometers off the island of Vancouver, a sculptural probe equipped with a panoscopic set of cameras, a broadband hydrophone (10Hz – 200KHz) and a group of remotely activated LED spotlights.
The lights will turn on for a few minutes per hour, one or two hours a day or a few hours per week, so as not to disturb the abyssal ecosystems. Meanwhile, the cameras, designed for filming in low light, will capture any possible light phenomena bioluminescence in the immediate environment of the Observer.
The data transmitted will make it possible to project in real time, in any immersive theater equipped with a spherical projection device the images and sounds captured, so as to give the viewer the impression of being transported to an inaccessible place. He will thus become aware of the existence, alongside from the familiar environment of our daily lives, of the existence of innumerable similar places, and realize that the phenomena that occur there at every moment, however unusual they may seem, are inextricably linked to all the events that surround us and constitute our world.
The cameras can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction ; the LED spotlights can also be adjusted according to their orientation so as to generate a uniform lighting over the observed field. This view of the interior of the polyhedral head shows the mounting devices designed for this purpose.
